Presentation: How’s It Hanging?

Presenter: Lisa Barnes

How’s It Hanging?
A bail isn’t just something affixed on a pendant for it to hang on a chain. A bail, while serving a function, must be integrated into the design of the piece. Bails can be made in many ways, can be ornate or minimal, can be hidden on the back of the piece or featured prominently on the front. Bails can be fixed, or add movement to a piece. Consideration needs to be given to the size and placement, in order for it to be balance and hang correctly. We’ll explore all of these considerations, while viewing examples of a wide range of bail designs, and talk about construction in metal clay. After this in-depth investigation, you’ll never look at a bail the same way again!
