Presentation: Incorporating Glass with Metal Clay

Presenter: Katie Baum

Glass and metal clay, especially fine silver, play very well together. Silver is lovely and classic, but it is, at the end of the day, colorless and grayscale.

Glass is an excellent way to add color, dimension, and character to your pieces – so long as you know how to keep both your silver and your glass happy so that they work with each other rather than against each other during creation.

Each media has their own unique and specific characteristics, and these must be considered at each step of the designing, making, firing and finishing processes in order to ensure a successful outcome that is as well-made and structurally sound as it is beautiful.
