Presentation: Crawling out of Creative Paralysis
Presenter: Karen Trexler
Creative paralysis, the frustrating dichotomy of wanting to make but not knowing what to make, is something all creatives encounter at some point or another.
This presentation will cover methods to move beyond creative paralysis, giving attendees tools to employ when they are feeling stuck, to keep their metal clay making practices moving.

Presenter – Karen Trexler, USA
Karen was lucky to discover her love for making early in life in a high school jewelry making class where she was introduced to the basics of metalsmithing. She pursued her passion for making and attended Ball State University, where she received a BFA before continuing on to get her Master of Fine Arts with an emphasis in metalsmithing and enameling from the University of Wisconsin- Madison.
After graduating with her MFA, Karen shifted her making emphasis from traditional metalsmithing to working with metal clay, falling in love with the accessibility and diverse possibilities of projects possible resulting from the flexibility of the material. Karen was hired as Cool Tools’ resident artist where she’s had the opportunity to continue to explore metal clay and share her creative interests with others through Cool Tools’ educational platforms.
