From Flat Sheets to Freeform Shapes
Rolled out sheets of clay doesn’t always have to end up as a flat shape. They can be easily shaped into many amazing designs. The sheets can be crumpled, folded, pinched, rolled, just to name a few, to create unique freeform shapes. For most of the techniques, no tools other than fingers are needed. These are simple methods that yield elaborate looking designs.
Make clouds, waves, fortune cookies, pleats and drapes easily.
This presentation session will focus on the basics of these techniques, which will serve as the starting point for more complex levels.

Presenter – Ginny Oh, Singapore
When I received my certification in silver clay in 2018, it was the beginning of the new path in my life. I made a career shift, from corporate to a full-time jewellery artist and eventually started my own jewellery brand byXiu Designs. I have always been intrigued by the art of creation, and have always felt the pull to create things with my hands.
I needed an outlet to express my thoughts freely, and jewellery is the perfect medium. I work primarily using metal clay, as its form gives me the freedom that I crave when I create, especially when my inspiration comes in all shapes and forms. Since embarking on this metal clay journey, I have received awards from AMCAW 2022 Motion Commotion Challenge, Korea Jewelry Design Award 2022 and International Silver Accessories Contest 2023 Japan. I have also been selected to participate in Romania Jewelry Week 2024.
